Dry Van Services

Swift operates over 16,000 trucks, the majority of which haul one of our 48,000 53-foot dry vans. Our Dry Van division operates in all 48 states and Canada. We haul freight to the borders of Mexico and Canada and from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast. You will see our white trucks and Swift trailers on every major highway and interstate.

Swift hauls everything you can see or buy in any store such as Target, Wal-Mart, JC Penney's, Sears etc. About 2% of the freight is considered Hazardous Materials which require those drivers to obtain the Haz-Mat endorsement. We also have nearly 200 sets of 27 foot pups which are connected together to form doubles that are hauled mostly in the Western United States on dedicated fleets.

Driver Orientation

Orientation is generally located at the closest terminal to where the driver lives and lasts 3 days. During this time truck drivers are familiarized with Swift's process, equipment, regulations, and polices. To get to orientation Swift provides transportation (Greyhound Bus ticket) to the terminal if needed.

Upon completion of your orientation, new drivers will go out with a mentor for a 4-6 week paid mentorship program in which drivers will receive on the job training. Experienced drivers, depending on their road test, will either become solo drivers directly following the orientation or be asked to go out with a mentor for a couple of weeks to refresh their driving skills.

Driver Benefits

Swift Transportation provides for the needs of drivers and their families in a number of ways:

Medical
Swift offers a PPO plan that permits you to obtain care and service from any provider you choose. However, if you elect providers from the Humana ChoiceCare Network (“in-network” providers), your out-of-pocket expenses will be greatly reduced. Our medical plan also includes some vision coverage.

Prescription Drug Coverage
Swift has enhanced its Benefit Program with a new “no deductible” Prescription Drug (Rx) Plan, provided by Aetna. You may elect either the Basic or the Buy-Up level of coverage for the Prescription Drug Plan regardless of which level of coverage (Basic or Buy-Up) you have on the medical plan. For generic drugs, the co-pay is only $10. For brand name drugs, the co-pay is 35% of the cost of the drug (Basic) or 20% of the cost of the drug (Buy-Up). Minimum and maximum charges may apply.

Dental
Taking good care of your health includes taking good care of your teeth and gums. Swift offers you the opportunity to purchase a voluntary Dental Plan, administered by MetLife that provides coverage for dental office visits and procedures, including orthodontia for children age 19 and under.

Employee Stock Purchase Plan
Swift employees also have the opportunity to purchase shares of common stock of Swift Transportation at discounted prices through payroll deductions. The Swift Stock Purchase plan is an after-tax deduction. You may elect to deduct up to 15% of your pay to purchase Swift stock.

401(k)
Swift continues to recognize the efforts you have made to its success and is proud to offer eligible employees a 401(k) plan. The purpose of this plan is to facilitate and assist you in planning for your retirement. Swift will match your contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to 3% of your pay.

Employee Assistance Program
Swift has contracted with ComPsych to provide employees and their families with confidential, compassionate and responsive counseling and referral services (at no cost to you) to offer immediate help in resolving issues, such as marital and family conflict, alcohol and drug abuse, depression, eating disorders, stress and anxiety, grief and loss, and physical abuse.
